Sustainability as a Corporate Operating System: The Experience of S2E

La sostenibilità come “sistema operativo” aziendale: l'esperienza di S2E

Corporate sustainability refers to an organization's ability to achieve long-term success while maintaining a balance between its economic, social, and environmental objectives. There are a number of ways in which corporate sustainability manifests itself: economically, socially, environmentally, and ethically.

In this context, sustainability cannot be limited to sporadic charitable or ecological initiatives but must encompass all aspects of an organization's internal and external operations.

We asked Giuseppe Adornato, Compliance Manager at S2E, some questions to better understand how these objectives are achieved.

What are the areas in which S2E implements its sustainability policies?

We at S2E believe that to be truly committed to sustainability, we must continuously embrace all its aspects, whether social, environmental, or governance focused. Since two years ago, we have been analyzing our people mobility using monitoring systems, analyzing data and developing home-to-work commuting plans. In addition to implementing a continuous smart working program, we are committed to having a fleet of vehicles that is increasingly eco-friendly.

Moreover, we joined the Open-es community, which provided us with a platform to monitor our sustainable development performance, identifying priority actions for the growth and development journey based on sustainability values. We strive to minimize the use of natural resources by reducing, recycling, and reusing materials. The company is committed to a plastic-free and printless policy. For the year 2024, we plan to achieve ISO 14001 certification, an international voluntary standard that can be applied to any type of organization, whether public or private, defining the requirements of an environmental management system, and confirming our commitment to sustainable and environmentally respectful business practices.

Regarding your company's social commitment, what have you achieved?

By donating to organizations such as Fondazione PUPI, WeWorld, Opera San Francesco, Bullismo No Grazie, Italian Red Cross, and others, we chose to support groups and associations that help the most vulnerable, especially children and adolescents. In this year's donation cycle, we may include environmental organizations in the theme of our donations.

In addition to existing inclusion practices, we aim to follow UNI/PdR 125, which outlines guidelines for gender equality management systems, including the adoption of specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to gender equality policies.

In terms of governance, how has S2E acted?

Our social responsibility strategy is based on ensuring high standards of integrity and transparency, including respect for human rights and the fight against corruption. It requires adopting an ethical code and organizational model in accordance with Legislative Decree 231/01, which describes a series of corporate initiatives aimed at preventing the commission of offenses for which the company might be held liable in its business activities. This document and procedural framework describe a series of corporate initiatives.

Among our prevention efforts, we have also activated a whistleblowing channel, which will increasingly play a significant role in gender equality and inclusion projects. By implementing concrete measures and establishing effective reporting channels, we are committed to promoting an ethical, fair, and responsible work environment.
